Scenic train rides in the White Mountains at Attitash Mountain Village

Conway Scenic Railroad

Enjoy some of the most dramatic natural scenery in the East as you travel through spectacular Crawford Notch – past sheer bluffs cliffs, steep ravines, cascading brooks and streams, panoramic mountain vistas, across Frankenstein Trestle and Willey Brook Bridge – en route to Crawford or Fabyan stations.

On the Notch Train, you’ll travel on what was once the Maine Central Railroad’s famed Mountain Division line on tracks that were laid in the 1870s.

Included in the excursion is a layover at Crawford Station, across from Saco Lake (a small pond from which the mighty Saco River originates), and adjacent to the AMC’s Highland Center. Passengers are encouraged to get off the train, stretch their legs, and explore their beautiful surroundings.

There is a cash only snack bar on the train, and Coach passengers are welcome to bring their own picnic lunches. You can eat on the train, or there are picnic tables next to Crawford Station.

Plan to board the train in North Conway or at The Attitash Station located at Attitash Mountain Village behind The Hospitality Building & Matty B’s Mountainside Cafe. Attitash Mountain Village is on Route 302 just 2.6 miles east of Bartlett village, opposite the road from the Attitash Mountain Resort ski area.

There are no provisions at the Attitash Station to accommodate guests who are mobility impaired.  Attitash passengers must be physically able to climb stairs and walk independently through cars to their designated seats.  Passengers who need boarding assistance should plan to board at the North Conway station.

Guests with prepaid tickets for Conway Scenic Railroad’s Mountaineer must be present on the Attitash Station loading platform no later than 12:10 pm to board the train. On days when guests have pre-purchased tickets on Mountaineer (to Crawford Notch) and have selected the Attitash Whistle Stop boarding option, the train will make a brief stop to load guests. On the return from Crawford Notch, the Mountaineer will pause at the Attitash Station at approximately 3:30pm for ticketed guests to depart from the train. Departing guests should listen for on-board announcements regarding this stop and should consult with the train crew regarding the correct door to exit the train.

Attitash Station boarding tickets must be purchased at least two hours prior to departure on the day of travel or the train will not make the Attitash stop. Passengers who have purchased Attitash Station tickets will receive their paper tickets from the train crew at the time of boarding at the Attitash Station.
